ABSTRACT
The article discusses the decision of International Coal Group to work with Active Control Technology (ACT) in order to test the first wireless system at the Viper mine in Springfield, Illinois. According to the author, ACT contacted ICG after the Sago incident. The ActiveMine system operates on a wireless fidelity network. ACT has special technology which allows it to provide wireless network with clear voice communications. The technology supports wireless hops for entries in coal mines.
