ABSTRACT
The article reports on the financial performance of China's major oil company PetroChina in 2006. The company recorded a 54.4 percent rise in operating profit in its chemicals division, to $658.9 million following sustained demand growth for plastics and fibers. An improved product mix, higher sales volumes and a strong economy also helped to boost margins.
