ABSTRACT
The article discusses the personal finance impact of qualified personal residence trusts (QPRT). According to the author, a grantor can place a personal residence or vacation home in a trust and receive specific tax benefits, while retaining the right to reside in the property for a determined amount of time. Detail on calculating if a second home or real estate investment qualifies as a vacation home is provided. The option of partially utilizing a QPRT is discussed with various contingency plans as an option for those who are undecided.
