The article offers information on the Sanibel Plan implemented by the city government for the preservation of the Sanibel Island in Florida. The plan was first established in 1976 to address the various environmental problems and challenges facing the island. According to Sanibel planning director Robert Duffy, it has undergone three revisions before the fourth amendment was submitted to the Department of Community Affairs. In addition, the government has also developed other programs to protect the island's environment and natural resources including the Interior wetlands Conservation District and the Environmentally Sensitive Lands Conservation District. The various regional and local challenges that need significant considerations were also discussed.
