ABSTRACT
The article reports on the success of the Chattanooga Bicycle Planning Initiative in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The initiative has received the 2007 National Planning Excellence Award for Implementation. According to Phil Pugliese, the bicycle coordinator of the city, the award implies strategic effort from all areas of the community. The Chattanooga Urban Area Bicycle Facilities Plan identifies 377.5 miles of new bicycle facilities to build over 20 years. In fact, the Chattanooga-based Lyndhurst Foundation funded a full-time city bicycle coordinator to advocate for cycling in city and state.
