ABSTRACT
The article enumerates six questions that hospitals in the U.S. should consider to help rebuild the country's public health system. It describes an ideal public health system and states that the country's public health system is underfunded, undermanned and inadequate to meet the challenges of protecting and promoting health. It lists several questions for assessing a hospital's performance in improving public health.
