ABSTRACT
The article offers information on viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS), a serious pathogen of fresh and saltwater fish that is emerging in the Great Lakes region of the U.S. and Canada. VHS can cause hemorrhaging of fish tissue, including internal organs, and can cause the death of infected fish. The best way to prevent the spread of VHS and other fish diseases is to avoid transporting fish from one body of water to another.
