ABSTRACT
The author relates his experience of being an absentee woodlot owner. He owns a land near Wanganui, which is 220 kilometers away by road from his home in Eastbourne. He recounts the storm in February 2004 that damaged an estimated 15% of his woodlot. He points out that the challenges of being an absentee owner are insignificant compared to the challenges of growing produce from the land. He says that being an absentee owner, he was able to meet good friends through the New Zealand Farm Forestry Association.
