ABSTRACT
The article offers information on the silviculture of the coast redwood in California. The redwood's ability to produce sprouts from roots, the stem, branches and even a broken top separates it from other conifers. Although this redwood regenerates poorly from seed, sprout regeneration occurs quickly in recently cutover stands. Topics discussed include regeneration from stumps, volume production, multi-aged management, variable retention system, models of multi-age regimes, and careful allocation of growing space. INSET: Stand density index - a useful tool for New Zealand….
