ABSTRACT
The article discusses the author's gardening as therapy to help with the loss of his son, Danny, who had been killed in a robbery. Danny had trouble fitting in at high school, until he fell in with the wrong crowd and got addicted to cocaine. As the garden progressed, the father's anger about his son's addiction and murder started to subside. He took special care of the Japanese maple sapling, a tree that he and his wife bought just before Danny's death.
