ABSTRACT
The article provides information on the National Provider Identifier, which is a health care provider identification system. The system has been adopted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Health care providers will no longer have to use different identification numbers when doing business with different health plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance plans.
