ABSTRACT
This section offers news briefs on the chemical industry in Europe. Lenzing posted a 31% increase in its 2006 operating profit from a year ago. Indian companies Ranbaxy and Cipla, along with Israel's Teva, U.S. drug maker Mylan and Iceland-based generics manufacturer Actavis, are said to be competing to acquire the generic drugs business of Merck KGaA. Romania's Authority of State Assets Recovery (AVAS) has sold the assets of fertilizer producer Nitrofertilizer SA to Donau Chem.
