Q4 profits down by a quarter at Basell

The article reveals that chemicals company Basell reported a 25% decline in fourth-quarter 2006 operating profits compared with the same period in the previous year. Pro-forma earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the quarter were down by 6% with polyolefins pro-forma profits down by 9%. North American polyolefins sales volumes were up, compared with a year earlier, but margins were lower than those achieved in 2005, according to the article.
