ABSTRACT
The article reports on the explosion of NSS-8 satellite during an attempted launch off the coast of California and its impact on the satellite insurance industry. It has been estimated that the explosion would result to a possible loss of $256 million to the industry. The satellite, which was built by Boeing Co. for SES New Skies company, was insured by the former for $200 million and the launch was insured by SES for $56 million.
