Ineffable Paths: Mapping Wutaishan in Qing Dynasty China

The author presents an analysis of the work of Gelong Lhündrup. The map of Wutaishan was created out of a series of wood block prints in 1846 to present a panoramic view of the holy mountain which at the time included more than 130 temple sites. Wutaishan is a Chinese mountain purported to house the bodhisattva Mañjuśri and is a place sacred to Tibetan Buddhists.
