ABSTRACT
The article reports that the British government's plan to bring clarity to the system of carbon offsetting would see most existing schemes fall outside the criteria. The proposals by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs would direct consumers away from voluntary offset schemes offered by some travel companies. The agency plans a voluntary code of practice, but only providers using carbon credits traded on the market established by the Kyoto agreement on climate change will have official verification.
