The article reports that the sales of furniture retailers Havertys and Pier 1 Imports have decreased in February 2007 as compared to the same month during the previous year. The sale of Havertys had reduced by 10.9 percent to $60.1 million. The sale for Piers 1 Imports had decreased by 8.6 percent. According to Clarence Smith, president and chief executive officer of Havertys, the slowdown in housing demand in the U.S. was the reason for the decrease in sales.
