Wellman posts Q4 operating loss

The article reports that Wellman posted a $9.6m operating loss in the fourth quarter (Q4) ended December 31, 2006, from a $47.9m loss in the same period a year ago, because of higher costs. Net sales in Q4 were up by 12.9% to $324.5m, but its costs of sales also increased by 20% to $318m, the polyethylene terephthalate producer said. For the flail year, Wellman deepened its operating loss to $62.4m from $37.5m a year ago.
