EC aid to scrap tankers

The article reports on the approval of a state aid by the European Commission for the scrapping of single-hull tankers over 15 years old that operate in the Italian cabotage market. Each year, €12 million, or $16 million, will be available to encourage the early scrapping of small single-hull tankers, even though under European Union and international law they could continue trading.
