The article reports on the developments of Worldnet, the world's first global satellite television network set up by the United States Information Agency (USIA). Worldnet started providing information about the U.S., its culture, politics and society on November 3, 1983. It first broadcasted the live, unrehearsed telepress conference "Dialogue." Afterwards, the network has been used as an integral programming block and as a news service.
