ABSTRACT
The article discusses Secure Sockets Layer and Transport Layer Security protocols, which are used by many ecommerce applications to secure private data. Though it is widely believed that these protocols provide sufficient security to protect Web-based ecommerce applications against man-in-the-middle attacks, they actually have serious vulnerabilities related to how much information remains unprotected. Case studies of attacks on Citibank's Citibusiness site and AT&T's DSL vendor site illustrate these vulnerabilities.
