ABSTRACT
The article discusses the use of Ethernet networks by business and government enterprises. Ethernet has been embraced by carriers due to its low cost, scalable interface, and packet friendliness, and it represents a major part of the metro networking market. Despite these benefits, many information technology officers have shown a bias towards SONET due to its robust and reliable infrastructure. A new version of Multiprotocol Label Switching may convince these people to switch to the more economically efficient ethernet.
