ABSTRACT
The article reports on the merger of the Open Source Development Labs, which sponsors Linux creator Linus Torvalds and the Free Standard Groups to form The Linux Foundation in Great Britain. The organization was set up to help accelerate the growth of Linux, by providing a more comprehensive set of services to compete effectively against proprietary platforms from the likes of Microsoft. Fujitsu, Hitachi, Hewlett-Packard, International Business Machines, Intel, NEC, Novell and Oracle. Jim Zemlin, former executive director of the Free Standards Group was appointed to lead The Linux Foundation.
