ABSTRACT
The article stresses the importance of thoughtful risk management when considering successful pharmaceutical outsourcing. According to Jim Miller, outsourcing has the potential to mitigate risk by reducing financial exposure, cutting time to market, accessing specialized experience, offering leverage over performance improvement and providing a second source of product. He observes that one of the reasons we see pharmaceutical companies trying to consolidate their vendor base is to invest in better communication capability.
