ABSTRACT
The article presents information about the DDT Project led by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology since 2002. The purpose of the project is to develop techniques for reducing damage in case of a major metropolitan-area earthquake as well as the development of rescue robots. The International Rescue System Institute is a special nonprofit organization that plays a role in the development of rescue robots. The rescue robot Hibiscus was made on an experimental basis in June 2006.
