ABSTRACT
The article presents a case study involving a 71-year-old woman in the U.S. with fever and altered mental status. This woman with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia was hospitalized because of a sudden change in mental status. On her physical exam, she was not oriented to time, place, or person but she was able to follow some 1-step commands. The results of her laboratory tests are also emphasized in the article.
