Sinopec speeds up its PP grade changes

The article reports on the improvements made by Sinopec's Shanghai Petrochemicals to its grade change performance through automation. In 2006, the company implemented Aspen Technology's aspenONE advanced process control (APC) for polymers on its polypropylene (PP) unit in the Shanghai chemical industry park in China. Guo Xiaojun, in charge of the project, said that the successful implementation has increased plant capacity by 3.4%, reduced product variability by 90% and cut changeover times by as much as 70%.
