ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the Shelby Park library, a historic Carnegie library in Louisville, Kentucky. A panel recommended that Louisville Free Public Library shut down six of its fourteen branches because an initiative that would have doubled the library's budget had failed. Shelby Park was among those closed wherein it had to be merged the Highlands branch. Moved to a shopping mall between Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue, the new Highlands-Shelby park branch has doubled its number of users than the two branches combined. Mona Leitner has been named as manager new branch. The Neighborhood history of Shelby Park and early history of Louisville Free Public Library were also discussed.
