ABSTRACT
This article provides information on videoconferencing. Corporations have remained dedicated to videoconferencing facilities, hoping to reduce employee travel while increasing collaboration among long-distance locations. Previously, these systems were based on costly dedicated leased line connectivity, with fixed codecs. Costs for these technological innovations can top $500,000 per location to install. Due to incompatible vendor-specific protocols, enterprise videoconference facilities are rarely used for hosting inter-enterprise conferences with customers and suppliers. This results in enterprise videoconference rooms averaging less than 10 hours per month in use. Newer systems by Trandberg and Polycom are more efficient, less costly, and better suited for various Internet systems.
