ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the agreement made by telecommunications vendors to adhere to the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which states that all of the products will work on that network, even though it doesn't always work that way. The author states that this issue of the magazine explores what that means in the industry, and John Wacklawsky questions SIP beyond telecommunications in terms of internet communications. All agree that SIP is becoming more complicated as it becomes multi-platformed. And while that sounds good, the information technology maintenance could be impossible, industry personnel like Wacklawsky state.
