This article profiles Dick's Sporting Goods as one of the best managed companies in the U.S. Dick's Sporting Good Chief Edward W. Stack bought out his father, Dick Stack, when Dick's Sporting Goods was two stores and more of a bait-and-tackle shop reflecting his father's fishing passion. Today the $2.9 billion company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylavia consists of 214 single-level stores in strip malls and 80 dual-level stores, most of which anchor larger malls.
