ABSTRACT
The article traces the history of sex education in medical schools in the U.S. In 1960, 3 medical schools in the country started offering formal training courses on human sexuality. Eight years later, the Center for the Study of Sex Education in Medicine was established. By 1974, a total of 106 medical schools included sexuality in their curriculums. In 1981, Harold I. Lief, author of the book "Sex Education in Medicine: Retrospect and Prospect," predicted that human sexuality education will find a permanent place in medical education.
