ABSTRACT
The article reports on the impact of a law passed by the French Parliament permitting chemical firms to obtain government contract if they incur a 23% price increase. A number of small electricity-intensive French chemical companies may opt out of the electricity consortium Exeltium as a result of the law. The reply to bids launched by Exeltium in the spring by around a dozen electricity companies covered only half of the consortium's needs, and the prices offered were not competitive enough.
