ABSTRACT
The article cites a study regarding the effectiveness of erythropoietin and darbepoetin for the treatment of anemia in cancer patients. The study was conducted by researcher J. Bohlius and colleagues. Randomized controlled trials were conducted in which patients were given recombinant erythropoietin for the treatment of anemia. The results were associated with decreased need for red blood transfusion, increased rate of hematologic response, and an increased risk for hypertension.
