ABSTRACT
This article reports that General Motors Corp. (GM) is rolling out a new advertising campaign for the GM Card in the U.S. as of October 1999. Executives at GM and its advertising agency, Mullen Advertising, refuse to comment on the coming changes with the card. However, a Direct Marketing Association conference schedule, which still lists the Retooling the GM Card session, says GM plans a new reward structure, new relationship-marketing program and new direct marketing. Over the years, the GM Card has lost its luster as it left fewer opportunities for cardholders to reap rebates. The competition influx has also negatively affected the GM Card, said Bruce Brittain, president of Brittain Associates.
