ABSTRACT
This article reports on the debut of television commercials for the online direct marketing company CoolSavings in the U.S. on October 18, 1999. The commercials are part of a $15 million advertising campaign, which started with radio advertisements in late September 1999. The three 30-second television commercials by Doner, feature the marketer's icon--a piggy bank with sunglasses. Matt Moog, executive vice president at CoolSavings, said that the company launched an offline marketing effort because it has established a critical mass of offers on its services and a strong user base. Outdoor and print advertisements will follow the television release.
