ABSTRACT
The article discusses early guitar literature on dances and grounds and presents several musical notations as examples. Guitarists and composers of the late Baroque era favored dance music over other musical genres. The menuet was the favored dance form in many late Baroque sources. Grounds were often the vehicle of choice for guitarists wanting to display their talents at writing long and elaborate sets of variations.
