ABSTRACT
This article presents guidelines from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) to ensure patient safety. Several agencies that have been working with drug manufacturers to prevent medication errors include the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Pharmacopeia and the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices. The National Patient Safety Goals of JCAHO is updated annually by a group of experts in patient safety, medicine, nursing and pharmacy.
