ABSTRACT
This article profiles journalist Dwight Sargent. Sargent received the Maine Press Association Hall of Fame award in October 2006. He began his career in journalism at several newspapers in Biddeford and Bar Harbor, Maine. He became a reporter and later an editorial director at the Portland Press Herald. He also became president of the Freedom of Information Foundation at the University of Missouri. He also served as chairman of the National Conference of Editorial Writers. He led the creation of the Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award.
