The article focuses on the evolution of data communications. The author has stated that the digital communications form the basis for the industry's giant revenue generator, and the digital transmissions are what were first carried in hundreds of bits per second over copper wire and now are carried in billions of bits per second. As innovations progressed, Internet protocol was useful for carrying true data as well as voice and video.
