ABSTRACT
The article discusses the future of the athletic footwear market, which is beginning to address fit and performance in relation to footwear customization. The three initiatives shoe company Timberland has launched to address fit issues are described. Reebok's approach to customized fit is presented. W.L. Gore's strategy for controlling heat and moisture in shoes is also discussed.
