ABSTRACT
The article examines the effect of amplification on musical theatre. It notes the importance of a microphone and amplification on crooners such as Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. Scott Siegel's annual "Broadway Unplugged" concert showed that Broadway singers can be heard without amplification. The article points out vocal coaches' confirmation that problems can arise when singers do not hear themselves.
