This article focuses on boutique and concierge medicine, which have names the author argues no longer fit. The author defines boutique medicine as a hospital and ambulatory service centers that limit themselves to the most profitable inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic, and treatment services. The early emphasis of these boutique services was on elite, luxury, and premium practices for the wealthy. But more recently, there has been just as much emphasis on preventive and proactive healthcare.
