ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the case filed against entrepreneur David Ji for allegedly signing bogus checks to pay the debt of his electronics company Apex Digital to Chinese supplier Sichuan Changhong Electric. He was arrested and subsequently signed an agreement turning over all his company's assets to the supplier. In April 2006, the supplier declared its settlement with Ji. Despite such settlement, Ji was not released to be able to return to his family in California and still under noncustodial detention in China.
