ABSTRACT
The article discusses the $5 billion merger plan of Houghton Mifflin, one of the largest publishing company, and Riverdeep, a leading educational software provider, by the end of 2006 in the U.S. The resulting entity will be known as Houghton Mifflin Riverdeep Group which combines two firms generating a combined revenue of $1.43 billion and Earning Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization of $392 million in the 12 months which ended in September 30. The Riverdeep CEO Barry O'Callaghan who spearheaded the deal will be the executive chairman and Tony Lucki, president and CEO of Houghton Mifflin, will be the vice chairman.
