The article presents the observations of Newton S. Manross, a graduate of Yale University who also had a Ph.D. in chemistry from Germany's University of Göttingen. Manross presents his observations about the Isthmus of Panama. Manross makes several observations about the landscape of this region and the nature of European exploration of the oceans.
