The article presents an overview of plastic industry market trends and data as of December 2006. SABIC is cutting high density polyethylene production by 15% at sites in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and Geleen, Netherlands due to the high ethylene prices. Low density polyethylene numbers also drop on average € 70/tonne. Several production issues hit the market, including a force majeure at Dow's 200,000 tonnes/year Wesseling, Germany plant.
