The article discusses the market potential of corn sugar. DuPont and Tate & Lyle have commissioned the world's first 1,3-propanediol plant based on renewable resources in place of petrochemical feedstock. It uses corn sugar in a new proprietary fermentation process which will be marketed under the name Bio-PDO. Bio-PDO production consumes 40% less energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 20% compared to petroleum-based propanediol.
