This article deals with the concerns expressed by Asian chemical producers over Europe's proposed chemical legislation, Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (Reach). Craig Barker, chairman of European Chemical Industry Council's Reach business implementations working group, predicted that a certain loss of product lines would be inevitable. Under Reach, non-European Union chemical importers will have to appoint a local representative to be legally responsible for complying with all relevant obligations.
