ABSTRACT
This article considers the move of CMGI as of October 1999 to relaunch AltaVista Web portal and to open a second portal called MyWay.com. AltaVista is the search engine-turned-portal bought by CMGI from Compaq Computer Corp, while the MyWay.com portal is developed to provide personalized information, commerce and services. The ad campaign for this portal, which entirely replaces Planet Direct, will be created by Arnold Communications that will be due on November. MyWay will integrate AltaVista's search technology, but will target different audience. Although CMGI is dreaming of being number one in the portal business, they are still far from that goal. AltaVista's audience ranked eighth among portals and search engines in August 1999
